The German Shepherd Resource and Rescue Center is holding a ghoulish fundraiser for canines and their owners on Oct. 23 at Endicott Park.

The all breed walk, costume contests and other canine fun is the first major fundraiser for the non-profit organization, which is based in the Hathorne neighborhood of town.

Rain or shine, get in step with your dog for a two-mile stroll through the park. Walkers are urged to collect pledges beforehand from family, friends, neighbors and coworkers. All pledges are fully tax deductible.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the walk gets underway at 11 a.m. An afternoon of entertainment and various activities will follow, including canine costume parades, exploring the Children's Barn, silent auctions, door prizes, raffles, a K9 officer demonstration and more. Several exhibitors will be featured as well, including Massachusetts Vest-a-Dog, Inc., a non-profit organization based in Walpole that raises funds to pay for protective vests for canine officers. Pet Life and the Ipswich Humane Society will also be there.

Volunteers are needed for various duties from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. For more information e-mail info@germanshepherdcenter.org or dhsserves@danvers.org.

Admission is free, but there is a $3 parking fee.

All proceeds from the event benefit the local rescue center, which also provides referrals, adoption services and other resources to German Shepherd owners. Visit www.germanshepherdcenter.org.
