Anne M. (Madden) Gargan, 83, died suddenly Dec. 9. Born in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Gertrude (Hession) Madden. She was raised and educated in Lowell and in 1944 graduated from Notre Dame Academy. Four years later, Mrs. Gargan graduated from Regis College.
Mrs. Gargan began her teaching career in Lowell, but most of employed years as a teacher was spent at the Holten-Richmond Junior High School and the Dunn Middle School in Danvers teaching home economics. A communicant of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Mrs. Gargon was also parishioner of the former St. Alphonsus Church.
In addition to her husband of 58 years, Raymond J. Gargan, she is survived by five children: Kenneth Gargan of Pepperell, Mark Gargan and his wife Carol of Byfield, Michael Gargan and his wife Janet of Danvers, Joan Barnes and her husband John of Niskayuna, N.Y., and Kathleen Steen and her husband Mark of Centreville, VA.; twelve grandchildren: Sean, Ryan, Patrick, Colleen, Jason, Steven, Karen, and Kevin Gargan, Matthew and Brian Barnes, and Jack and Erin Steen; four great-grandchildren: Bryan, David, Medea, and Connor; and a sister, Kathleen Youngman of Florida. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary DeMello and Ellen Kennerly.
Visiting hours are Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors. Her funeral mass is at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited.
