The intersection of Cherry and Holten Streets is an extremely dangerous one. I am not surprised to learn that this accident has occurred there. Every day, cars on both sides of Holten Street obstruct the view coming out from Cherry Street, whether a driver is going to make a left hand or a right hand turn. This obstruction represents a clear and always present danger for vehicular and pedestrian traffic in this area. On May 1, 2012 I and my dog Miles were legally crossing in the crosswalk on Holten Street and Cherry when a car making a right hand turn from Cherry Street, either because she was on a cell phone, or not looking or otherwise distracted, speeded up as we were crossing and hit my dog on his left side. I could not stop to get her name or the name of a witness to this improper operation of her vehicle and to the clear injury she risked for my dog. I had to get my dog to the vet as quickly as possible to make sure no bones had been broken. The driver stopped but ultimately got away without having to take responsibility for her misdeed. But I will no longer try to cross Holten at Cherry Street ever again with my dog. Ignorant Drivers pay no attention to the fact that someone is in the crosswalk and continue to drive as if the pedestrian does not have the right of way. The intersection is very dangerous and noone has taken it into their hands to correct the problem. It may be the site of an even worse incident in the future.
