Welcome to “5 Things,” your daily resource for community events, happenings in town and other little tidbits of information. Here are five things you need to know on Monday, Jan. 14.

1. Warm: Monday’s weather forecast serves up a mix of all sorts – above all it will be warm, with a high temperature close to 50 degrees. The day will start out with fog and clouds and the sun is expected to come out in the afternoon. It will also be gusty.

2. Thailand: Kelly Joy of Danvers is headed off with the Peace Corps, and we told you about her in a story last month. She’s scheduled to head off on Monday.

3. Transportation: A plan to pay for an overhaul of the transportation system in the state will be unveiled by Gov. Deval Patrick on Monday. The plan, called “The Way Forward: A 21st Century Transportation Plan” will be announced in the Campus Center Ballroom at University of Massachusetts-Boston at 11:30 a.m.

4. Bruins: The return of professional hockey has some people excited, while others remain disgusted after the NHL lockout. But if you’ve been craving to see the Bruins in action a the Garden, you’ll have a chance for free on Tuesday night – for free. Starting a 11 a.m. on Monday, the Bruins will be giving out two tickets per person, for free, to the team’s scrimmage at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at TD Garden.

5. Cheerleaders: The Falcons Cheerleaders are headed to the nationals next month and are raising money to pay for the trip.  On Monday night, 20 percent of the sales at Supino’s will go toward the effort between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Several items will also be raffled off.
