5 Things To Know on March 14: 2014 Budget Review Continues

A great way to start the day with a quick look at the events and happenings in town.

Welcome to “5 Things,” your daily source for community events, happenings in town and other little tidbits of information. Here are five things you need to know on Thursday, March 14.

1. Cooler: Thursday will be cooler than previous day this week, with the temperature not getting above 40. The sky will be mostly cloudy and the winds will blow up to 15 miles per hour.

2. Spelling Bee: The top 45 spellers from Holten-Richmond Middle School will take part in Liberty Tree Mall’s spelling bee on Thursday night. It starts at 6 pm. in the food court.

3. Pi Day: Thursday is March 14, or 3/14. That makes it Pi Day.  Some math teachers have special lessons planned for class or it is just an “exiting” day for all math lovers.

4. Agricultural Society: The Essex Agricultural Society’s annual meeting will happen on Thursday at Angelica's Restaurant in Middleton. The society is the non-profit that owns and operates the Topsfield Fair. It starts at 6 p.m. and will include voting for officers and updating the bylaws.

5. Budget: The Board of Selectmen continue its review of the town’s proposed fiscal 2014 budget on Thursday evening at Town Hall starting at 7 p.m. The review will include a look at the Town Manager, MIS, Assessing, Town Counsel, Department Heads, Finance Committee Reserve Fund, Moderator and Board of Selectmen budgets.
