7 Grill Changes To Matty's Food And Spirits

The restaurant that opened in December on Endicott Street will change from 7 Grill to Matty's Food and Spirits today.

7 Grill has some changes in store today.

The upscale restaurant that opened on Endicott Street in December 2011 will change over to a new name, Matty's Food and Spirits, and will be revamped to a sports bar, starting on Thursday, June 7.

The changes were announced at Tuesday night's Selectmen's Meeting, when the family's representative Thomas Demakes told the Selectmen that they had changed their concept.

Before the restaurant opened, the owners had invested a lot of money into renovating the space from the former Uno's Restaurant, Demakes said.

Unfortunately, the casual dining concept wasn't as well received as they'd hope.

With Matty's Food and Spirits, the restaurant's menu will change, but the floor plan and capacity will remain the same. There will be additional TVs brought in, and they hope to add a lottery in the back of the restaurant as well.

While at the meeting, Spero Demakes was also appointed as the new manager of the restaurant. His father, James, who had been collaborating on the project with Mark Leger, passed away two weeks ago.

James Demakes was the former owner of the popular Jimmy's Allenhurt on Route 114.

Thomas Demakes said Matty's will have a similar to feel to the sports pub atmosphere at Jimmy's Allenhurst.

lol i was the sous chef and prep book designer there. this is a joke. they are in 750k and couldn't afford the staff. they fired all talent, hired half rate cooks, and the worst thing to happen to that place was Spiro

I almost agree Judy. Like any good businessman, the owner recognized the market was not looking for fine dining in that area, so he changed the concept to what the market required. Jon, I am sure you are a talented chef, and if you are, you belong working in the greater Boston area and not across the street from the Liberty Tree Mall and next to the 99, Wendy's & Burger King. You cannot fault the owner of the restaurant for changing his/her concept in order to stay in business.

Good point Brian. If Jon happens to be a good line cook it seems he doesn't have the full concept of what it entails. Maybe with more training and experience he will be able to mature into making wiser decisions in his future. Good luck to him. Spero, you've got what it takes and you are doing it well!
