A Tale of Two Januarys: 2011 vs. 2012
From Jan. 2011's winter wonderland to Jan. 2012's springlike temperatures.
As we say goodbye to January and roll into February, we thought it would be fun to take a look back at this year's mild month, and compare it to 2011's snow-filled January.
The Boston Globe reported at the end of Jan. 2011 that in the month we accumulated about 38 inches of snow, making it the third snowiest January in Boston on record. This year, however, we've barely surpassed three inches, and when we have, it has been gone within a day or two.
Not counting our freak Snowtober, will our first winter blizzard make its way into town with the start of February?
According to the National Weather Service, probably not this week.
Tomorrow there is a 40 percent chance of precipitation, but with high temperatures forecasted at 53 degrees, we certainly won't be seeing any white stuff.
Wish we were having a white winter, or are you happy with the mild temperatures? Let us know in the comments.

If THIS is "global warming", all I can say is "Thank you, Mr Al Gore, for inventing it!"

Don't forget the Blizzard of '78! The Northeastern United States blizzard of 1978 was a catastrophic and historic nor'easter that brought blizzard conditions to the New England region of the United States and the New York metropolitan area. The "Blizzard of '78" formed on February 5, 1978 and broke up on February 7, 1978. Snowfall occurred primarily between Monday morning, February 6 and the evening of Tuesday, February 7. Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts were particularly hard hit by this storm. Boston received a record 27.1 inches (69 cm) of snow;

If anyone has a photo from Danvers during the Blizzard of 78, send it our way and you'll be featured in our new Vintage Danvers column, later this week :)

I feel sorry for the people who depend on snow removal for income in the winter as they really got cheated this year. That said, I LOVE the mild winter.
