'Cars All Over' on I-95 Because of Black Ice
Several cars are off the road and there was at least one crash on I-95 near the Ferncroft Rotary on Thursday morning.
Three people are injured in multiple car crashes on I-95 southbound near the Ferncroft Rotary on Thursday morning, according to initial reports from first responders.
The crash, plus other spinouts in the area, were attributed to icy conditions. All injuries were believed to be minor. The first crash occurred at about 6 a.m.
A State Police trooper at the crash reported that there were “numerous cars all over” in a radio transmission and that the road was "all black ice."
The state Highway Department was headed to the area to set up an arrow-board to direct drivers away from the crashes. Some of the vehicles would require a winch to get them back on to the road, according to State Police.
At least three cars were in the ditch, according to State Police troopers at the crash. A WCVB-TV helicopter over the crashes showed a flatbed tow truck working to pull a vehicle out of the snow and back on to the highway. The helicopters footage also shows southbound traffic backed up to Endicott Road (exit 51).
Danvers Fire Department was on scene and requested two Lyons ambulances.
