On Saturday, Jan. 7, the Danvers Rail Trail Advisory Committee formally launched a new fundraising effort designed to improve and enhance the town's Rail Trail.

Mileage markers were installed along the length of the trail, and are being sponsored by groups, businesses or individuals and families, with all funds raised being dedicated to trail enhancements. An blue-and-white decal on each marker features the sponsor’s name, logo and/or dedication message. 

At the Mileage Marker launch, two large contributors, Danvers Kiwanis and Mead Web Design and Computing, both helped to install the marker decals, and thanked donors for their generosity.

Last summer, the Danvers Kiwanis were the first sponsors of the trail, and Mead Web Design and Computing donated $3,500 worth of web design services to date by creating and maintaining www.danversrailtrail.org. Mead also hosts a Facebook page for the trail.

The donors invited to the launch included the law firm of McCann and McCann, the Computer Tutor, Twin Oaks Nursing Home, It’s my Heart, Danvers Hardware and Ned Jackson Photography. 

Seven individuals and families have also stepped forward to sponsor a marker:  the Rockett, Anderson, Cilley-Bouchard, Curtis and Lincicum families, Christine St. Hilaire, and the Leo Cidzik family.
