Danvers Teen Killed in Salem Crash

A Salem woman is facing a felonious charge of vehicular homicide.

A Salem woman is facing a vehicular homicide charge after a 19-year-old Danvers man was killed in an alcohol-related car crash early Saturday morning on Boston Street.

Dillon Renard of Danvers was killed just before 4 a.m. when the car he was traveling in hit a flat bed tow truck at All Star Collision Center on Boston Street in Salem, Salem Police said. Renard was dead by the time emergency responders arrived on scene, police said.

Angelique Griffin, 25, of 30 Pleasant St. in Salem was driving the vehicle and is currently in the custody of the Salem Police, according to Sgt. Marc Berube. She is being charged with motor vehicle homicide, operating to endanger negligently while operating under the influence of liquor.

The vehicle homicide charge is a felony.

State Police are investigating the accident.

Berube said the vehicle was coming into Salem, just over the Peabody line at the time of the accident.

"The operator veered off to the right into a flat bed tow truck," he explained. While Renard was killed by the impact, Griffin "essentially escaped the accident with very minor injuries," Berube explained.

The Salem Fire Department reported the Jaws of Life were used on scene to remove the roof of the vehicle.

Griffin was treated at the hospital and released. She is currently being held on $50,000 cash bail.

Det. Dennis Gaudet of the Salem Police Department. Officer John Burke was the investigating officer.

we must teach our kids not to drink and drive....but also not to get in a car with someone who has been drinking. It seems like it's always the passengers getting killed. A drunk girl hit a parked flatbed truck outside my house a year or two ago. Same situation, but she was driving alone. Had there been a passenger in the car, they wouldn't have had a chance. Be safe and careful!. Can't stress this enough for the kids!! My mom used to leave a $20 under the mat inside the porch so if I ever needed to take a cab home, I could..no questions asked. Have a safety plan with your kids.

william you are the freak everyone involved is at fault they were all drinking he was STUPID for getting into a car knowing full well he as well as her had been drinking this is what happens when you drink and drive. its amazing that when its someone that you know personally now you want justice, what about the ones that arent know personally the list is huge for example what justice was served when Mary Jo Kopechne was killed no jail time no justice for her. nothing will or can bring him back and making threats against her wow, the injustice just goes on and on, they are both troubled souls if getting drunk is what they consider to be having a good time.

How could a drunk passenger be at fault??? That stripper who lost her kids to the state and looks like she took a few hits of before she took someones life so if anyone should be held responsable to the fullest it will be her.. If eceryone there knew it wasnt right to drive drunk at that gathering and they all knew he wanted to go home she should of said whut most of the other drunk people said and stuck with no point blank. I dont even know dillon but it seems to me everyone liked him besides this freak anonymous. Because he a had a couple run ins with the law your gonna judge him based on that? I guess this is the love someone whos not from danvers gets because based on most ive seen from there you all suck. You all are judgmental of people or were they come from. I dont know you dilllon but rest in paradise.... NO MATTER WHUT SHE AND SHE ONLY IS AT FAULT..... WHY?? EVERYONE ELSE SAID NO SO WHY DIDNT SHE... you kno its funny to if he wanted to go home why wus they in salem on boston st.. A city were she is from?? Sounds like sombody had some sexual plans that night because his home is in the complete different direction.

well Nik everyone is responsible for his or her actions at all times. you say the others at this drinking party wouldnt take him home because they know its wrong to drink and drive well then they too should be held partly responsible they did stop him from getting into the car with her, if they really cared and he just had to go home they should have put him in a cab. and what a leap saying because she lives in salem and the accident happened in salem that somebody had sexual plans ??????????? wow . Look no one is saying its his fault but he and he alone is responsible for his actions at all times he chose to drink, he chose to get in the car with her, he paid a high price for his stupid decision nothing can change that now

To anonymous: You said she is not the only one to be blamed is quite a fandasa ; and you also said he is no angel and had run in with the laws, he may or may have not ran in with the laws, which is pretty absurd because correct me if I'm wrong, hadn't you said you did not know him? Actually, she should go to jail. Dillon was an angel, sorry to correct you. Your mind set in incredibly wrong. Process more things before you get the tendency to write your innaccurate infromation that you come up with. Again, he may or may not have ran from the law, but one thing is he passed away because of the one whom was behind the wheel. So SHE should get her court orders. Only SHE can get her part in this. She killed him whether she was DUI or 'AS YOU WOULD PUT IT' making everyone whom was at the party held responsible. People of course should have kept they're eyes open on what is possible of happening, but no one as you can see, knew this would had happened. You are not god nor the preacher, read some books/articles/magazines etc. on what's likely to happen on the human mind when his/her is under the influence ; what's done is done. This is life, deal with at it comes. She's alive, and had the wheel in HER hands. There's lies going on, believe what you want. Rest easy Dillon, you are an angel.

yes Jasmine wouldnt it be nice if everyone who took a life when drunk or in an angry rage went to jail but that dosent happen most dont even get a fine look at the ones who when someone is killed the news reports this is their (whatever # dui)where's the outrage then, what about people in the public eye who get away with taking a life like Mary Jo Kopechne killer, he never served any jail time, the laws need to be consitent, they are not. and you say no one could have know this would happen, ok well maybe not at this moment in time but luck runs out, you can only tempt fate so much so unless you live under a rock the evidence of getting drunk and driving is known. its too bad dillion paid the high price this time, No one is God ( only God is God) not even you these postings are opinions and we are entitled to them. Putting her in jail yeah she she wouldnt be out and about instead as taxpayers we support her in jail, hmmmm no that wont bring Dillion back drunks need to see first hand what there irresponsible actions do, maybe working in a funeral home and seeing the grief of the people who are left behind face. Something needs to get through to people of all ages but the young who think it wont happen to them really need to pay attention and wake up to reality.

alcohol is a drug....it should be banned just like any other street drug.....justice will never be done as long as alcohol remains accessable to those who abuse it. Alcohol serves no medical purpose whatsoever. It is used to escape reality and to escape responsibility...It kills more people than heroin, ecstasy, methanphetimine, and cocain put together...It's a Nonsence drug that has no purpose.....I myself have lost more than 4 family members in the last 30 yrs due to Other drivers who where drunk. There are thousands of KIds who try alcohol for the fist time under the age of 15 every day...If it's out there, they will try it...It's time for " Justice For All " and finally take it off the shelves for good. I knew Dillin personally and he was a great " KID "....I hope Dillin and his family get the True justice they and all the other families effected by this horable drug deserve.....R.I.P Dillin....
