Falcons Fall Short To Peabody Tanners

Despite a fourth quarter comeback, Danvers fell to Peabody 21-7.

Danvers put up another late fight in the final quarter, but came up short Friday night as they lost to Peabody 21-7.

The Falcons started their game right from where they left off last week, as they did not give up a single point to Peabody for the entire first quarter. Similarly, last week, after the first possession to Winthrop.

The table would turn though, as a Peabody offensive display was upon them. Led by the running game of senior Nat Gaye, Peabody would start the second quarter with a touchdown drive. On Danvers next posession, they would drive into Peabody territory, but would lose the ball on an interception, thrown by quarterback Paul Nicolo. Nicolo's mistake would ultimately lead to another Gaye touchdown run with just under two minutes to go in the half.

Despite being down 14-0 at the half, Danvers was moving the ball on offense, as there four drives would end in Peabody territory three times. With a half still to play, and a team coming off a win where they scored 18 points in the fourth quarter, this game was far from over.

After letting Peabody take seven minutes off the clock, Danvers would intercept a Jason Hiou pass in their own red zone. Even though this would not lead to points, Danvers had taken the momentum with them into the fourth quarter.

For the second straight week Danvers would mount a comeback. After Justin Woodbury recovered a fumble in the early portion of the fourth, Valles and Nicolo would streak down the field. Valles would run one in, and Danvers now trailed 14-7.

Danvers, whose defense was showing tiredness, would wake up and stop Peabody on a key third down, forcing a punt. Danvers received the ball with 3:56 on the clock, and looked like the magic was in their hands again. Nicolo and Valles did their job to work down the field, but Jake Palazola would break out a huge run to bring his team back to the Peabody red zone. Unfortunately for Danvers, they would not be able to complete a 4th and 6, giving the ball back to Peabody.

After the two minute warning Gaye broke off a long run to make the score 21-7, and send the Falcons back to Danvers with a 1-1 record.

After two road games to start their season, Danvers will play Pentucket next Friday for their home opener.
