There was no Market Basket in Danvers when I grew up there, but there was a Purity Supreme at the Danvers Plaza! (S). I worked at Almy's when Purity was there.

Sounds pretty Danvers to me Michael! I think they opened the Danvers Market Basket in the mid 80s. I'd say having worked at Almy's is certainly a "yes" answer on the quiz as well. My mother I think worked there for a time as well back in the day - Bill Laforme

FAIL! AWWWW. Your newcommers are too curent,
They were just organizing Endicott estate when I grew up, no market basket, but we went to Your Market' ( Mckinnons?) in Tapleyville, We all learned to swim at Sandy Beach before the Y was available. They weren't re-enacting revolutionary ( some forlks were old enough to have fought in it!!) battles although we ate plenty of strawbery shortcake , some on the center street Green, We LIVED at the Meadows, (early am to late night) in the winter especially after Curt King had lights and music setyup there from home, ...(and we made rafts and mucked around there in the summer, fished in the channel). Mill pond was just a pond then, ducks were in danger of being eaten , not fed...no gazebo or bucholic resting places. Sometime skated there but not often:), Tutcos potato farm was just being converted to the Libity Tree ( mall) ,,,, Mostly we went fishing at the res, 'parking ' was done elsewhere.. wE WNET TO bILL AND bOBS at the bev/salem bridge LONG BFORE sUPREMES WAS OPENED FOR OUR jRS WITH SAUCE, but nephews have rrun us thru there a number of times ...

Tom: Could the place to go parking was on Dane Street (?) across from St. Richards Church B4 it was built? I remember hanging around with friend s from Forest Street that use to go over there & harass the "parkers" (VBG).

I remember Market Basket before it was officially called "Market Basket". The sign used to say Demoulas!!! And I used to work as a youngster next door to "Demoulas" at "Donut Delight"... anyone remember that?

Haha, Yes! I used to go to Donut Delite every 10 minute break I had when I was a 15 year old "sacker" at Demoulas. My fiancee and I actually met while working there years ago, although there was a 20 year hiatus where we didn't see each other.

Despite being born and living here for 55 years I failed the Danvers quiz, maybe because I answered no to "Did I ever work at Market Basket". There was no MB when I was younger. Now if you had asked "Did you ever work at Hotwatt" my answer would have been different. But there is no right or wrong answers, just different ones.

This morning it struck me that since Demoulas only opened up around 1985, a good addition to that question could have been "Did you ever work at Almy's?" which one reader mentioned yesterday.

We weren't dazzled by the emergence of big supermarket shopping in Danvers, being loyal to the smaller stores like Brooks Market (Brooksies), Your Market (MY Market), and Purity Supreme (S'Purity Preme). Although, I never worked at any of them, I was a great career babysitter :)
