Kindergarten Registration is Around the Corner
If you plan on enrolling your child in the full-day kindergarten at your neighborhood school, you need to register him or her next week. Same goes for students entering first grade in the fall who aren't enrolled in the school system now.
If you’re planning to have your child attend the full-day kindergarten program at your neighborhood school in September, it’s time to register next week. Also, if your child will be entering first grade this fall but is not currently enrolled in the Danvers Public Schools, you need to register as well.
To enroll in kindergarten, a child must be five-years-old by Sept. 1. Similarly, he or she must be six-years-old by Sept. 1 to enter first grade.
The hours for registration are 9-11 a.m. and noon - 1:30 p.m. on the following dates:
- Thorpe School, Jan. 24
- Riverside School, Jan. 25
- Smith School, Jan. 26
- Highlands School, Jan. 27
- Great Oak School, Jan. 28.
You can find a registration packet on the district Web site at danvers.mec.edu. Once complete, bring those forms and a copy of your child’s birth certificate, proof of Danvers residency in Danvers (a tax bill, driver’s license or another bill or document with your current address displayed) and a copy of your child’s most recent physical examination, lead screening and immunizations along with you to registration.
If you miss your school’s registration date, parents are allowed to register at any elementary school in town.
There will be a general orientation meeting for parents at the Holten-Richmond Middle School on April 7 at 7 p.m. Parents will hear from teachers and administrators on specific information about the academic and social curriculum for the year in kindergarten.
In the event that kindergarten enrollment at your neighborhood school exceeds the cap of 20 students per classroom, students will be placed at another school in town. Notifications will be made the first week in July if that’s the case and it does not affect whether the students will be able to attend their neighborhood school post-kindergarten.
If you have questions about the process, call the superintendent’s office at 978-777-4539.
