Local Bakery Assists In Hurricane Irene Aftermath
Cakes for Occasions auctioned four gourmet cakes to benefit the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
The auction, which saw dozens of bids before the weekend of the storm, raised $750 for relief efforts.
"The hurricane was a very unfortunate incident but we decided to try and turn it around by doing something good for the community," said Cakes for Occasions owner Kelly Delaney in a press release. "The Red Cross is a fantastic organization that helps those that need it most during difficult times."
The gourmet cakes auctioned were each themed, named Eye of the Storm, Left in the Dust, Evacuation Route and Seek Shelter. The winner of the Eye of the Storm Cake donated the four-tier silver dot wedding cake that retails for $925 to My Brother’s Table in Lynn.
