Local Man, 35, Leads Police on Chase from BJ's

Police received a report that a suspect was behind the wholesale club trying to steal firewood Saturday night.

 

Police arrested a local man at midnight on Saturday after he led officers on a car chase and subsequent foot search, fleeing from the parking lot behind B.J.'s Wholesale Club.

Kevin Toerne, 35, 1 Park St., Danvers, was arrested at his residence on a warrant obtained by police about an hour earlier.

Police received a report that someone was trying to steal firewood from behind B.J.'s around 11 p.m. Toerne was at the scene when officers arrived and fled in his car, leading them on a chase to the vicinity of Elm Street and Bavaro Pass where he abandoned his vehicle and continued on foot.

A K9 unit was brought in and Toerne was eventually located at his residence.

He was taken into custody on the warrant on charges of failure to stop for police, driving to endanger, larceny under $250 and miscellaneous motor vehicle violations from the chase.
