Lost Truck Driver Pulls Down Tree, Closes Road
A Maple tree that pulled down by a tractor trailer closed a part of Conant Street on Tuesday night.
A lost tractor-trailer driver making an awkward turn Tuesday night clipped a Maple tree, pulling it down and closing a portion of Conant Street for neatly an hour.
It happened just before 7:30 p.m. in front of 114 Conant St., between the intersection of State Road and Liberty Street. That small section of road was closed until about 8:15 p.m.
“I barely tapped the tree and the tree came down,” the truck driver told Danvers Patch as he watched workers from the Danvers Forestry Division cut up the tree.
The driver was later identified by police as John Ross, 53, of Chino, Calif. He was not injured.
Danvers Police Officer Scott Frost said atthe scene that Ross got lost looking for Route 95 south. Ross was headed northbound on State Road and went to turn left onto Conant Street, headed west. That intersection is a Y and making the turn Ross attempted was is "against the Y," so to speak.
“The truck just dragged the tree over,” Frost said.
Ross will not face any charges and was not ticketed, said Sgt. Robert Bettencourt, a Danvers police spokesman.
