Police arrested a 27-year-old man living at the Days Inn off Endicott Street late Wednesday night for trying to strangle a female relative.
Joseph Messina, 27, of 152 Endicott St., Danvers, was charged with domestic assault and battery and attempted murder. He was arraigned on those charges on Thursday in Salem District Court.
Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Bettencourt said officers responded to a report of a domestic fight in a room at the motel at 11:53 p.m. on April 6.
“It was just an argument and then got ugly,” Bettencourt said.
Officers reported that Messina had struck the woman in the face during the course of an argument and then tried to strangle her. The victim did show some bruising on her face, a swollen lip and marks on her arm, Bettencourt said, but after being examined at the scene by EMTs from Lyons Ambulance, her injuries were not deemed serious enough to warrant hospitalization.
