The fact that this dog got along with his house mates is NOT a guarantee that he is "good with dogs," nor is it any guarantee that your dog will like this dog. If you already have dogs at home, and want to adopt him, be sure to ask the shelter if you can bring your dog(s) along for a meet and greet to see if they like each other. Dachshunds are not "stubborn" - it's just that, like all hounds, they are much more independent than some other breeds, and not as "biddable" as the dogs that were originally bred to work closely with humans, rather than going off to sight or scent prey on their own. They are smart and food motivated, and usually do very well with positive reinforcement training techniques, properly utilized so that the dog doesn't become food dependent. Many Dachshunds are barkers, especially when bored, although mine was not. As a trainer and hound owner (on my fourth, one of which was a Dachshund) I can attest to their affectionate nature. Not for everyone, as with all breeds, but I loved my Dachshund, who had a cute repertoire of tricks and was loved by everyone in my neighborhood growing up.
