Pedestrian Struck on Thursday is 32-Year-Old Danvers Woman
A 32-year-old Danvers was woman seriously injured when she was struck by a vehicle on Thursday morning along Route 62.
The crash occurred on Maple Street, in an area that is also Route 62, near the intersection with Burley Avenue at the foot of Lindall Hill at 7:30 a.m.
No charges have been filed in connection with the crash. It was not immediately clear if the pedestrian was trying to cross the street at the time of the crash or whether she was in a crosswalk.
The vehicle that struck the pedestrian was driven by a 44-year-old woman from Danvers. She remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, police said. Police did not say the make or model of the car she was driving.
When the first arriving police officer got to the scene, officers found the woman on the street “suffering from serious injuries,” police said in its public statement.
The pedestrian was taken by Lyons ambulance to nearby Great Oak Elementary School, where a Boston MedFlight helicopter landed on the baseball field. She was loaded into the helicopter by crews from Lyons and the Danvers Fire Department and taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Her condition was unknown on Thursday morning, police said.
The crash closed Route 62 between Locust Street and Beaver Park was closed for about two hours at the peak of the morning commute and school drop off time. Maple Street reopened at about 9:30 a.m.
The crash is under investigation by the Danvers Police and the State Police was assisting with crash reconstruction. State Troopers also assisted in directing divers away from the crash scene and on the detours in the area.
Two years ago, a pedestrian was struck in just about the same area at about the same time in the morning, according to news accounts at the time in the Salem News and Boston Globe. In that instance, a 17-year-old North Shore Technical High School student was crossing the street in a crosswalk and was struck by a cement truck diver. He suffered a broken pelvis and later recovered.
