Happy Fourth of July, Danvers!

Were you at Danvers Family Festival's Fireworks display last night?

We took photos, but we also want to see yours. Whether they're the whole group of friends waiting for the fireworks to begin, a look at the many vendors or the entertainment at the bandstand, or some shots of the fireworks lighting up Plains Park -- upload them to our album.

What a horrible nightmare traffic was last night! I wish Danvers Police would set up portable lighted signs on Hwy 62 in both directions, way before Conant and Elliott to let us know that no traffic is allowed in either direction DURING the fireworks display! You know -- the lighted signs that tell you what speed you're going? If they had warned us before we got to that intersection, we would have taken an alternate route home. Instead, we sat at that intersection 90 minutes while the fireworks went on, then thousands of people walked on the roads, then traffic was tied up in both directions with cars that had been parked on the side of 62 exiting. All we ask for is
this important information.

This is good information and will bring up the issue of traffic control and preparedness at our DFF meeting on Tuesday.

Sandra, I totally agree that the traffic was a horrible nightmare! I posted a comment last night to the Facebook page for Danvers Family Festival, but it was deleted. Guess they didn't want to hear about it. We were stuck on 62 from where it meets 128 (actually at State Road) to Conant Street for quite some time BEFORE the fireworks even started. We just couldn't get through, and couldn't get a place to park to even get in to the festivities at all. The original traffic light on 62 by 128 was set to flashing red/yellow, which was a wise decision, but the new sets were all functioning. And at the next set of lights, police duty were making sure cars wouldn't get through. Quite disappointing.

But Kathy, if you have any pull with Danvers traffic control, perhaps you could get them to adjust the timing of the lights a bit better? People waste more gas waiting at those lights 24 hours a day, when it seems completely unnecessary.

What happened to the fireworks? It seemed like they never made it off the ground. I cant tell you how many years now either by weather or a poor display I along with others have been disappointed.

We had a great time. I do agree the fireworks weren't as great as there were in years past. It was also tough because the wind was blowing towards the crowd so we got showered with debris. But it's more about the energy, the time with friends and family and thank god the weather was beautiful. We always walk home, so no problem there and it was nice to stop at the Maple St Tavern tent on the walk down. Good times! Happy Fourth!

A lot of people thought the ones on the ground that caused a lot of smoke were duds. I thought it was meant to be that way. Kathy. another thing to note. I always sit down on Damon. there are a TON of people over there and we can't hear the music. Im sure that would be an easy fix. and is it just me.... when i was little I remember "pictures" being made from fireworks, like a flag etc. I haven't seen anything like that in years. odd since I would think with today's technology it would be easier to do.

I remember "pictures" being made too! The flag is definitely the most memorable one, but I haven't seen it attempted for years. I also remember a yellow smiley face. The last time I remember seeing pictures, they were exploding upside down, so maybe that's the reason they stopped it? Too hard to predict which way it'll have the stars? But I've thought the same thing about the technology making it seem like it would be easier to do nowadays.
