Power was cut to 119 customers for about an hour while repairs were made to a snapped utility pole near Liberty Tree Mall on Wednesday.
The pole was damaged in a crash just before 10 a.m. when a tractor trailer struck the pole while turning from Commonwealth Avenue to Federal Street. The driver was not injured and no other vehicle wee involved.
The damage pole was on the corner near Dick's Sporting Goods and it shut down the intersection until the repairs were complete.
Power remained off after the crash but had to be cut for about an hou so repairs could be completed.
As a result of the incident, a guardrail should be installed in the area to prevent future incidents, said Danvers Electric Engineer Hamid Jaffari in an outage report he completed afterward. A complete copy of that report is attached to this story.
The outage lasted an hour, from 11 a.m. to noon, for customers on Ash, Sylvan, Pine and Federal streets.
In addition to snapping the top off the pole, a guy wire was damaged. The Utility Director, Coleen O’Brien-Pitts, said the incident was “a fairly serious motor vehicle hit.”
