Powers, McCartin, Crane All Up for Re-election
Candidates for elected town office must file their nomination papers by March 15 at the Town Clerk's office. The last day to register to vote in the Town Election is April 13 in the clerk's office.
Those interested in running for elected office in town can still pull nomination papers from the Town Clerk’s office. Papers must be filed with the clerk by March 15 at 5 p.m. along with 50 good signatures from registered voters.
On the Board of Selectmen, chairman Michael Powers is up for a new three-year term, while on the School Committee, Eric Crane and Jean McCartin are also both up for new three-year terms.
The Town Moderator position held by Patricia Fraizer is a single-year term and three library trustees are up for new three-year terms. The trustees are Donald Gates, Irene Conte and Wilbur Cobb.
For Town Meeting, there are five vacancies for three-year terms in each of the eight precincts in town. There are also two vacancies for unexpired terms – a two-year seat in Precinct 2 due to the death of Vernon C. Russell, Jr. and a one-year post in Precinct 7 because the position was previously filled by caucus rather than Town Election, according to Assistant Clerk Kathy Woytovich.
Town Election is May 3 from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Town Meeting is May 16 at 7:30 p.m.
The last day to register to vote in the Town Election is April 13 by 8 p.m. in the Town Clerk’s office. The office is open Monday to Wednesday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Thursday from 8 a.m. - 7:30 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The clerk’s office will be open until 8 p.m. on April 13.
The town Board of Registrars must certify nomination papers after they are filed with the clerk’s office and papers must be signed by the person seeking office. Individuals seeking election as Town Meeting Members must have 10 signatures within their precinct.
Current Town Meeting Members can seek re-election without filing nomination papers but they must sign an affirmation and return it to the Town Clerk no later than March 4.
Ballot placement will be conducted March 24 in the clerk’s office at 6:30 p.m.
