Holiday hiring typically occurs during September and October. Both companies said its seasonal hiring is up over last year, the AP reported. Kohl’s said it is up 10 percent while Wal-Mart did not specify the amount of the increase.
Kohl’s said it plans to hire 52,700 people for holiday season. Of that, 5,700 will be in its distribution center and the rest will be in its stores - an average of 41 people per store.
For Wal-Mart, it expects to hire at least 50,000 associates in addition to giving its existing employee more hours.
The company has 4,000 stores nationwide.
