My name is Donald Bumiller and I am running for Governor's Council in the Fifth District. I am asking for your vote on September 6, 2012. If elected, please allow me to explain what I hope to accomplish.
The Governor's Council gives final approval to the nominations of judges. On the Council, my priority will be to represent your interests, so that if you go to court your case is heard by an experienced, fair-minded judge, one who can apply the law and who understands that real people will be affected by any decision. I also recognize that judicial decisions often have an even greater effect beyond the court room, and I believe judges have a larger responsibility to their communities, particularly when it comes to public safety. I have worked in our courts for over 27 years. I know what it takes to be a good judge in the different courts. My opponents don't have that experience, and for this position, EXPERIENCE COUNTS!
The Governor's Council also approves appointments to the Parole Board. As the father of young children, I believe in no early release for murders and sex offenders. We need to do what we can to make our streets safer, and reducing parole rates is a good place to start. I am the only candidate taking a stand on this.
My experience - working in the trenches of the court system, representing ordinary people who deserve justice - makes me the most qualified candidate for this important position.
For these reasons, I ask for your vote in the Democratic Primary on September 6, 2012. I would appreciate any comments or questions you may have. You can also visit my website at www.voteforbumiller.com - where a more detailed resume and other information may be found.

Mr. Bumiller - well I can certainly see that you are well qualified, what is the difference between you, Ms. Duff and Mr. Eppley?

Alex: To begin with, I know the courts inside and out - I have been working in them for 27 years as a private practicing attorney. My goal is to see that well qualified individuals become judges. It's that simple. There is no rule that you have to be a lawyer to serve on the Governor's Council, but knowing the courts gives any Governor Councilor the distinct advantage in performing their constitutional duties. In this job experience really does count and I am the ONLY candidate with the right experience and that is difference between me and the other candidates. Don, where do you stand on the big news story in NYC last week. A homosexual savage Andrew Goodman found guilty of 48 counts of criminal sexual acts--the rape of young boys! Instead of life with out parole, New York State Judge Martin Murphy gave this animal just 2 years! Murphy has a lifetime job as they do in Mass--how about term limits for judges or the ability to recall them after an egregiously wrong decision like this one. NY media reported Murphy has a habit of being soft on child predators and homosexual attackers. I hope you would never approve a guy like Murphy--sadly Patrick has appointed many like him here--who love to legislate from the bench.

Oh great.. another ambalance chasing lawyer whose history of litigation has driven up health premiums in addition to business insurance and consumer product costs. Just look at his record. We don't need a court insider guarding the gates of judgeships.. what we really need is "Tort Reform".

I have an important question for everyone, including, Epply, Duff, Bumiller and OBrien who are all desperately seeking this job. I CHALLENGE all of you, plus the wonderful Gay and Lesbian Political Action Commitees--to use the Patch and other media, to CONDEMN the horrific recent decision of NY State Judge Martin Murphy--who sentenced a homosexual criminal--guilty of 48 COUNTS of CRIMINAL SEXAUL ASSAULT--THE RAPE OF YOUNG BOYS TO JUST 2 YEARS! Sam, Christine and others are welcome to try to explain why the Pro-Homosexual folks NEVER CONDEMN this criminal behavior! The silence from the above on this issue, sure appears as though they support soft sentencing of homosexual criminals who attack children! I hope to see all of you today 1 August at Chick-Fil-A at North Shore Mall to support a strong Christian business that is corrageous enough to stand up against the bullying & intimidation tactics of politicians like Menino, Emmanual & those PACS, and publicly support religious freedom, free speech, and traditional marriage!

Sally, Obviously the judge in that case was wrong. What this one individual did to the two boys is absolutely unforgivable.
But it is grossly unfair for you to paint all LGBT people with the same brush.
And, not to put too fine a point on it, this case has NOT A THING to do with the race for Governor's Council in Massachusetts. It happened in New York, where judges are elected, not appointed: http://www.judicialselection.us/judicial_selection/index.cfm?state=NY
Perhaps you should be directing your ire to those who elected that judge, not at Mr. Bumiller, Ms. Duff, et al.
Enjoy your grease fest today. I honestly don't care at all what the CEO of Chick-fil-A thinks. I've never eaten there. I don't eat there because I don't eat junk.

As a grandmother I support your dedication to keeping child molesters in prison longer. It is a shame how they let the sex offenders out of jail and they just re-offend. Keep up the good work! You have my vote.

Don, how do you feel about the current judges in the commonwealth in regards to 3 strikes law, repeat drunk drivers who seem to get a slap on the wrist, and the loss of faith in the court system? What are the characteristics you feel are key in nominating a good judge?

Niki: I endorse and support passage of the 3 strikes law, which should be approved by the Legislature this year. The existing loop-hole that allows repeat drunk drivers to plea out to a first offender disposition needs to be closed by the legislature. In the meantime, judges should exercise their discretion and refuse to go along with sentencing a second offender to a first offender sentence.
The final question you ask requires a longer response which I will provide in the next few days. Thank you. Donald Bumiller, Candidate for Governor's Council

Hello Mr. Bumiller, Do you support same-sex marriage? I'm sure you've been following the Patch articles and comments of the other candidates, and to be honest I am straight and still so offended by some of the posts. I would like to hear your thoughts on this

Mr. Bumiller, what would you see as your role in screening out lenient judges who put the public at risk?

Helen, I see the role of a Governors Councilor as trying to find out a nominee's real position on sentencing. I also would want to find out if the person understands the public safety aspect of every sentence given out. If a judicial nominee does not appreciate that law-abiding citizens are put at risk when a dangerous criminal gets a slap on the wrist, they won't get my support. The real problem is to get past their position statements and figure out how they really stand on this issue. That's where my independence and questioning skills would come into play, as well as taking a close look at the nominee's background. I hope this answers your question. Thank you,
Donald Bumiller

Governor's councilors don't select judges, lenient or tough. They vote Yes or No on the ONE name given to them from the Governor

Ho Hum... Another Democrat hack running for the office that guards the gates of judgeships that are nominated by a Democrat Governor at the personal request of select Democrat Legiscritters that are influenced and financed by lobbyists, femminists, and special interests ... and you wonder why the blindfolded lady holding the scales of justice is crying.
