"Spring?" you ask? Yes, spring!
It may not feel like winter ever really arrived this year, but spring is upon us! Maple sugarers in Vermont like my father have started tapping, which means the earth is waking up - all around I see signs that people are ready to "wake up" also. Some numbers to "wake" us ALL from our winter slumber...
The pounds of sugar the average American consumes in one year. That's 1/3 of a pound EVERY DAY, 1/2 of which is high fructose corn syrup or 300% more than the amount that will trigger biochemical havoc! That's the average - many consume more than twice that amount. Sugar feeds cancer cells, triggers weight gain and promotes heart diease, diabetes and premature aging. Sugar is toxic and it is added to almost ALL processed foods. Only we are in control of what we choose to fuel our bodies with.
Make The Shift.
6 to 9
The time of day we feel the most upbeat is 6am to 9am. Things go downhill as the day progresses and bottom out between 3pm and 4pm. Just being aware of this can be tremendously useful when timing daily activities like important meetings or even exercise. Maybe a dose of Bikram Yoga at 6:30am on Tuesdays/Thursdays when you're feeling motivated, or 4pm on Saturdays/Sundays when you need to chill-ax is just the ticket! Make The Shift.
The national average spent on clothing and shoes PER MONTH is $192. The things associated with optimizing our health all cost less: an office visit to a holistic nurse practitioner ($100), an educational health-related class or seminar ($15-$125), an organic whole food meal ($8-$20). Meanwhile, we continue to stuff our closets. Make The Shift. And I don't mean the little black shift dress!
Showing "The Shift" at Each Peach Cafe, Friday, March 2nd. From the creators of You Can Heal Your Life: The Movie comes a compelling portrait of three modern lives in need of new direction and new meaning. In his first-ever movie, Wayne Dyer explores the spiritual journey in the second half of life when we long to find the purpose that is our unique contribution to the world. The powerful shift from the ego constructs we are taught early in life by parents and society—which promote an emphasis on achievement and accumulation—are shown in contrast to a life of meaning, focused on serving and giving back. Filmed on coastal California’s spectacular Monterey Peninsula, The Shift captures every person’s mid-life longing for a more purposeful, soul-directed life. This event is free!
We hope to see you throughout the month of March at Each Peach Cafe for one of the many events scheduled around personal healing and growth.
