Just a short drive north along the coast, Gloucester is a small fishing town brimming with beautiful views.  A good place to begin your adventures is the visitor's center. Volunteers there can point you in the right direction.  According to volunteer Rosie Sagall, one of the most popular activities is whale-watching. She said they guarantee you will see whales on your expedition.  Want to relax by the water? Check out Pavilion Beach. According to locals, it's the only beach with free parking.  "It's quiet and peaceful," said Winifred White, a Gloucester resident for 63 years.  White makes her…

No journey is complete without scouring the local stores for unique trinkets or picking up a gift or two for friends and family back home. Today, get out and explore the unique local stores and all they have to offer. See what treasures you can discover. "Where did you get that?" "It's A Secret!"  It was the conversation sparker that owner of "It's A Secret," Kimm Tremblay, wanted her store to produce.  Part of why Tremblay's shop full of homemade treasures is literally a secret, is its location. Because of town bylaws, her in-home-business located at 100 Conant St., cannot have a sign. …
At the Skin Rejuvenation Center and Spa, director and founder Saundra Grillo wants her guests to feel beautiful, while also educated about their skin and the way it works.  Starting Skin Rejuvenation Center 25 years ago, Grillo moved the business into it's location at 105 Water St. approximately four years ago. "My first clients were actually my students," she said.  Peels, live frozen stem cells, ultrasound technology, and power washes on pores, are just some of the tools the center uses to work on skin.  The Skin Rejuvenation Center & Spa was the first establishment on the East Coast to …
The year is 1692 in Salem Village, present day Danvers.  The infamous Salem Witch Trial hangings began in June, acting as a black mark in Danvers history. When Rebecca Nurse, an elderly and well respected God-fearing member of the community, was accused, many began to question the methods in determining a witch. Nurse, who had been in land disputes with the Putnam family for years, was found not guilty amidst a public outcry of support.   But to no avail. Upon the reading of the verdict, Ann Putnam and her siblings fell into renewed fits in the courthouse and the verdict was quickly …
Take advantage of time with your kids and get out and enjoy these hot spots. Your Patch Passport gives you options for great local spots for kid-friendly fun.  We asked Facebook-ers their thoughts on kid-friendly spots in town, and both Endicott Park and Connors Farm were among top suggestions.  Endicott Park With various family activities, playgrounds, orchards, and picnic areas, it's no wonder that the 165 acres that make up Endicott Park is a favorite among both kids and parents. During warmer months kids can enjoy playgrounds, as well as hiking and fishing. In the winter take advantage of…
The road surrounding Danvers Swamp Walk is a little misleading. Sandwiched between large, beautiful homes, it leads the driver to believe he is lost, causing many to circle around a few times before finally arriving.  The first thing that's noticeable is a large field of tall grass and then a thicket of trees behind that. At first glance, there is no swamp to be found.  Soon enough, though, there is an opening that turns into a trail through the woods. It winds around a few times, with branches and rocks jutting from the ground. Be sure to step carefully.  Then there's another opening and …
