About this column:

“Town Around Town” is a weekly feature spotlighting what members of the public have to say about the issue of the day.
It was the both the end and the beginning of an era when MTV launched music video television with the first music video ever: Video Killed The Radio Star, by The Buggles, 30 years ago this month. Many wrote it off as a passing fad. For others, it defined a generation. Video marked the beginning of a new way to interpret music, while also becoming the standard in the music industry. Recording artists embraced the medium as a new way to market themselves. No more nameless-faceless songs on the radio; now those acts had to be polished and spit-shined for the camera. They had to look as good as …
This week's Talk Around Town focuses on one of the most prevalent stories in this week's media: the national debt ceiling debates that have been taking place in Washington D.C. Danvers residents were asked their thoughts on the situation.  Share yours in the comments section below.
GQ recently reported that Boston was the "Worst Dressed City in the U.S."  Poking fun at Boston residents' excessive sportswear, hoodie sweatshirts, and bootcut jeans, GQ states that "Boston is like America's Bad-Taste Storm Sewer: all the worst fashion ideas from across the country flow there, stagnate, and putrefy." So, for this week's Talk Around Town, it seemed only fitting that the residents of Danvers, who live a mere 20 miles from the city, get a rebuttal.
Crowds of costumed wizards lined the AMC Theater on Thursday night for the midnight premiere of the final Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.  In Danvers fans were, not surprisingly, sad to see the end of an era.  "I was brought up with Harry Potter," said Abby Doan-Simmon, who wore a signature lightning bolt scar on her forehead, and a gold and burgundy scarf representing the Gryffindor house at the midnight premiere. "I can't believe it's over. I don't know what I'm going to do now." Fans Kate Hart and Corey Malone described author J.K. Rowling's books as "the …
This week's Talk Around Town asked Danvers residents, "What is your reaction to the decision made regarding the Casey Anthony trial?"  On June 5 Casey Anthony was found not guilty on counts of first degree murder, aggravated manslaughter, and aggravated child abuse, and guilty of four misdemeanor accounts of providing false information to a law enforcement officer.  Anthony will face $1,000 in fines and one year in court, which was decided by the court on July 7.
The proposed merger of People's United and Danversbank was approved by the Office of the Massachusetts Commissioner of Banks and the Massachusetts Board of Bank Incorporation on Tuesday -- and the transaction was expected to be finalized at some time yesterday. This week's Talk Around Town focused on the recent news, asking folks in the square, "What are your thoughts on the recent merger?"  For Alcide Cormier, the situation hits home. His daughter, a Danversbank employee for 26 years, is going to be laid off in October. "She is going to get a week's pay for every year that she worked there…
It's Bruins, Bruins, everywhere!   Bruins fans are being swept up in Stanley Cup fever after the Bruins shattered the Canucks in Game 7.  Never before has a team won after forcing a Game 7, and never while playing on enemy turf.   With goalie Tim Thomas setting series records all over the playoffs, and bringing home the MVP,  fans are proudly sporting their black and gold in a way that hasn't been seen in 39 years.   Danvers Patch caught up to a few die-hard local fans to find out what their reaction was to this historic Stanley Cup Win.
Whether heading out to enjoy the game, or watching at home, fans agree that ever since that fateful season ending hit to Horton, the Bruins are back on a winning streak.   They owned the Garden in their two cames against the Canucks, and a new rivalry seems to be brewing.   The question is, with the team headed to Vancouver, can the B's keep their fire burning in game five?
This week we asked the people in Danvers Square, "What does Memorial Day mean for you?" It was particularly significant for 93-year-old Peter Marvin of Lynn, who served in World War II. In 1943, Marvin was aboard a destroyer that bombarded and brought down German tanks along the coasts of Sicily so that American troops could land safely. Marvin spent four months in the hospital recovering from battle injuries during that time and noted the importance of honoring the disabled veterans who are still suffering today from World War II.
While some Danvers locals are gearing up for elaborate family getaways, others are just as content to enjoy the summer months closer to home. Danvers Patch caught up with residents out at Endicott Park recently to find out what plans are being made for summer. One thing is for certain, Danvers folks are beyond ready to say “goodbye” to the cold and rainy weather in exchange for some fun in the sun.
Mother's Day is this Sunday, May 8. Many Danvers locals are planning on treating mom to a nice breakfast, while others are planning on celebrating with  dinner at a nice restaurant. Regardless of how the day begins or ends, most agree that the most cherished part of every Mother’s Day is time spent with family.
With the news of Osama bin Laden’s death Sunday night by President Barack Obama fresh on people’s thoughts, we asked Danvers residents what their reaction was. Here’s what Danvers Patch readers had to say on Monday morning via Facebook: “I cried tears of joy! I thought of Danvers’ own Ms. Martin. Although I didn’t know her, she’s a hero in my heart... I hope her family has found peace today. I thought of all the victims of 9/11 and the men and women that helped save lives while risking their own... I felt for the families that are left behind and hope that they have found peace today.” — Amy …
As Prince William of Wales takes Kate Middleton to be his princess on Friday, England will bear witness to a fairytale dream come true. The wedding was expected to attract as much, if not more, interest than the famous nuptials of William’s parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, 30 years ago, which was seen by over 750 million people worldwide. Danvers Patch caught up with a few people in town recently to find out who is getting swept up in the excitement, and who would rather not.
Danvers Patch asked the question, “How are you spending April Vacation?” to youngsters out and about this week. Many kids are doing their best to keep plans with friends and the theater was “Hop-ping,” with the movie “Hop” being sold out on Tuesday afternoon.
This week, we asked Danvers locals how the steadily climbing gas prices at the pump are affecting their travels, day-to-day or otherwise. This is what they had to say.
This week, with the Earth Day Recycling Weekend hosted by the Department of Public Works and other organizations coming up, we asked residents around town how they felt about recycling. Here’s what they had to say.
The Boston Red Sox open the season today (Friday) in Texas against the Rangers and local fans are hungry for another championship. They predict the Red Sox will go all the way to the World Series again and bring home another trophy.
