'Wipeout' Course Opens on Friday - But Not in Danvers Anymore

Friday is grand opening day for the Wipeout-style obstacle course that was originally planned to be in Danvers.

The “Wipeout”-style obstacle course that was planned to open this fall in Danvers is opening for the first time on Friday, but in a new home – 35 miles south in Abington. “We’re not opening in Danvers anymore,” said owner Pat Tarmey, a North Shore native. The course is designed to be much like the course seen on the ABC TV show by the same name, with obstacles named “big blue balls,” “barrel roll,” “cargo drop” and “spinning pegs.” But it has changed its name, now going by the name "Gravity." The course - the first of its kind in the country open to the public - will still be much like the ones contestants battle in the TV show. Tarmey said he made the decision to change tact and abandon the Danvers plans in favor of Abington about a month…

We as business people have to make hard decisions and frankly I think some of the comments here are harsh considering that. &nbsp more ›

'Addiction to Extreme Recreational Businesses' Pushed Motorized Paraglider to Create Wipeout Course

The man who plans a Wipeout course for the public in Danvers was arrested on Sept. 11 after flying over Salem in a motorized parachute - one of his other adventure sport businesses.

The man arrested earlier this week for flying a motorized parachute over Salem is the mastermind behind a public Wipeout course planned to be built in Danvers last this year. Patrick Tarmey the same adrenaline quest that lead him to create Wipeout at first got him into motorized parachuting. “After the success with Paramotor Tours I started Wipeout,” Tarmey told Danvers Patch. “I have an addiction to extreme recreational businesses.” Tarmey, who lives in Peabody, has been in the headlines this week after multiple 911 callers reported him flying over Salem on Tuesday, Sept. 11. Tarmey’s escapades, including his arrest and payment of $50 in court fees, have been reported by the Salem News, WBZ-TV and WHDH-TV news. Tarmey said he …

Country's First Public 'Wipeout' Course Coming to Danvers

An obstacle course much like the one that contestants face on the TV show "Wipeout" is coming to Danvers this fall.

Many of the challenges of the obstacle course on the TV-show “Wipeout” are coming to Danvers this fall. “We’ll be the only public Wipeout course in the country,” owner Patrick Tarmey told Danvers Patch. While it shares the same name as the ABC television show, it is not affiliated with the show, Tarmey said. The course is going in a commercial building on Route 1 south next to North Shore Marble and Granite, roughly between White Hen Pantry and Home Depot. Construction of the course will start soon, Tarmey said, and his attorney is working with town officials to determine whether a special use permit or variance is needed for the facility. Pre-access will start Nov. 1 and it will open to everyone on Dec. 1, he said. Ticket are being sold …
