More About Northshore Unitarian Universalist Church
In 1966, a small group of church parishioners broke ground on what was to become the home of North Shore Unitarian Universalist Church, solidifying the merger of two Unitarian-Universalist churches in Danvers and Peabody. Today, the church offers a number of ministries, including a religious education program for children from nursery-age through high school, adult and youth choirs and other music programs and a Social Action Committee. The committee, among other things, has a mission to study ethical eating practices, such as engaging in Community Supported Agriculture and educational projects. The church pastor is Rev. Frieda Gillespie. NSUU retains some artifacts of its 19th century roots, such as the 2,700-pound bronze bell in the rear of the building. The bell was first installed in the Park Street Church in Peabody in 1829.
