Danvers Boys' and Girls' Soccer Champs of the NEC Small

Here's what you need to know today in Danvers.

Today is Wednesday, Oct. 30. Here are five things to know today in Danvers.

  1. Not only has Danvers High football dominated the competition in the Northeastern Conference this fall, both the boys' and girls' soccer teams are also champions of the NEC Small (fifth straight for the boys). The boys are 10-1-5 overall and 8-1-4 in the league while the girls are 10-6-1 overall and 10-2-1 in the NEC. Both teams are in the playoffs. Tournament pairings will be announced Wednesday by the MIAA.
  2. The field hockey brackets have also been announced and Danvers finds itself in the 12th seed matched-up against Needham Thursday (3:15 p.m.) in Needham for the first round of the Division I North tournament. The Falcons head into the playoffs on an 11-5-2 record. 
  3. And in other tournament news, Danvers golfer Wes Millbury qualified as an individual for the Division II state tournament, which was held Monday at Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton. Millbury shot an 81 for the day. 
  4. The Hair Cuttery is running a special offer to Red Sox fans this week --  you can get your World Series game face on (or is that hair?) with a free red hair spray while supplies last on Wednesday and Thursday.
  5. America recycles and so does Danvers this weekendThe town is holding its annual two-day recycling event Saturday and Sunday at the high school parking lot by the tennis courts.
