Empty Bowls Dinner and Drum Majors for Justice

Here's what you need to know today in Danvers.

Today is Thursday, Jan. 16. Here are five things to know today in Danvers.

  1. St. John's Prep hosts its annual Empty Bowls Dinner Party Thursday (6 p.m.) to benefit Haven from Hunger. Come purchase a custom made bowl, fill it with tasty soup and support a local food pantry.
  2. Town Hall and other public offices will be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. And that evening, the town will be hold its annual Drum Majors for Justice awards dinner at the Danversport Yacht Club. Tickets are $35 each.
  3. Each year, Cranney Home Services of Danvers donates $1,000 per month to local charities nominated by North Shore residents and customers. You can find more details here on how to make a nomination.
  4. Mark Whitmore of the North Shore Career Centers will be the guest speaker Friday morning for the North Shore Business Forum at the Danversport Yacht Club. Whitmore will be talking about career transitions after age 50.
  5. The Polish Club is putting on a rockabilly country western dance this Saturday. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the club for $10 each and there will be limited sales at the door.
