Learn All About Penguins at the Library

Here's what you need to know today in Danvers.

Today is Friday, Dec. 27. Here are five things to know today in Danvers.

  1. Stop by the library Saturday to learn all about penguins with educators from the New England Aquarium. There are two sessions planned (10 a.m. and 11 a.m.) for kids in grades 1-5. To sign up, call 978-774-0554 or visit the Children’s Room. Each session is limited to 25 children. There won't be any live penguins in town Saturday, but kids will learn how to act like them and how to collect and analyze data like scientists, as well some penguin behavior and the different species. There will be crafts and refreshments after each session.
  2. This weekend's free matinee at the library is the film "Scoop." Showtime is 2 p.m. in the Gordon Room.
  3. The North Shore Players will be holding auditions for their upcoming production of Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes” on Friday and Monday from 7-9 p.m. Auditions will be in the Hogan Regional Auditorium at 6 Hathorne Cir. Come prepared to do a cold reading from the script and sing six to 18 bars from a song of your choice. Show performances are in March. For more information, Ken Fund at 978-335-5605 or visit www.northshoreplayers.org.
  4. Over at the Wenham Museum, there's a New Year's Eve celebration planned with puppets, a drum circle, noisemakers and more fun for the whole family.
  5. Christmas isn't quite over yet. You can stop by the Masonic Hall at 20 Washington St. in Beverly Saturday from 8-11 a.m. for a Christmas Community Pancake Breakfast, which includes all-you-can-eat blueberry and plain pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and all the fixings. The price is $5 for adults and $3 per child. Proceeds benefit the Masons’ charitable initiatives. Call George Haile at 978-807-4150 for more details.
