Town Archivist Trask to Talk JFK Assassination

Here's what you need to know today in Danvers.

Today is Thursday, Nov. 14. Here are five things to know today in Danvers.

  1. Town Archivist Richard Trask will be speaking on the death of President John F. Kennedy and sharing some of his own research on the subject Thursday at the Danvers Historical Society’s meeting at Tapley Hall (7 p.m.). Trask is as much of an expert on that subject as he is on the witchcraft hysteria and has authored several books about, including “Pictures of the Pain” and “That Day in Dallas.” Several of his books are in the Sixth Floor Texas Book Depository museum in Dealey Plaza where JFK was assassinated. Parking will be available on Page Street or at the municipal lot at the corner. RSVP to 978-777-1666 or email cgareri@danvershistory.org. Admission is free for historical society members and $5 for non-members.
  2. The Peabody Institute Library of Danvers is hosting An Evening with Author Ann Leary Thursday for a reading, book signing and discussion of her latest novel, "The Good House." The event is actually being held in the multi-purpose room at the Holten-Richmond Middle School.
  3. The Danvers Council on Aging is hosting its annual holiday fair Saturday at the senior center from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. There will be a variety of goods, vendors and more. If you'd like to donate an item toward the fair, Thursday is the deadline.
  4. St. Richard's Gala: As part of the ongoing 50th anniversary celebration at Saint Richard's Parish, there's a gala planned this Saturday at the church hall. A social hour will be held from 7-8 p.m. with a cash bar and hors d'oeuvres. Danvers Community Access TV will also show a video of the church's history and anniversary events. Entertainment with the Horizon Band is 8-11 p.m. with desserts, a raffle and silent auction. Tickets are $30 each. Call Anna Bertini at 978-774-5323 or Mary Jalbert at 978-777-0988. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
