Salem-area leaders endorse Warren Tolman for Attorney General

State Senator Joan Lovely, State Representatives Keenan, Speliotis and Parisella join Mayor Driscoll in backing Warren Tolman

WATERTOWN -- Massachusetts Attorney General candidate Warren Tolman today announced the support of many of the Salem area’s top leaders. State Senator Joan Lovely, State Representatives John Keenan, Ted Speliotis, and Jerry Parisella joined the growing list of leaders supporting Warren Tolman for Attorney General.

“I am grateful and honored for the fantastic support I have received in the Salem-area,” Tolman said. “These leaders want a safer, stronger Commonwealth and as Attorney General, I will work to protect our communities by requiring smart gun technology, ensuring safer campuses, and tackling opiate abuse.”

“I’m proud to support Warren Tolman because of his commitment to safer communities and outspoken support for taking action on equal pay,” said State Senator Joan Lovely, D-Salem. “We know we can count on Warren stand up to protect Massachusetts families.”

“Warren Tolman will be the proactive, progressive leader Salem and Massachusetts need to combat gun violence and stand up to special interests,” said State Representative John Keenan, D-Salem. “His plan to require fingerprint trigger locks on new firearms will lead to a safer and better Commonwealth.”

“I’ve known Warren for almost 20 years. He’s one of the most dedicated, sincere and committed public servants that I’ve encountered,” said State Representative Ted Speliotis, D-Danvers. “He’s never compromised his ideals or changed his position to get ahead. In this day in age that’s a virtue you should look for first and last in a leader.”

“Warren is a true friend and advocate for veterans,” said State Representative Jerry Parisella, D-Beverly, a major in the U.S. Army Reserve. “Because of his efforts, military pensions in Massachusetts are tax free. He will fight as Attorney General to ensure veterans receive the benefits they deserve.”

“The attorney general’s position is about leadership, and Warren Tolman has the best experience and vision for improving our communities,” said Mayor Kim Driscoll, co-chair of the Tolman for Attorney General campaign. “With Warren Tolman’s plans for smart gun technology, campus safety, and environmental protections, we can expect safer neighborhoods, secure college campuses and a better future for our Commonwealth.”

Democratic State Committee member Arthur Powell and Salem Democratic City Committee chair Marsha Finkelstein are also supporting Tolman.

Tolman recently completed the Gateway Gunsense Policy Tour, which included a stop in Salem with Keenan and State Representative candidate Paul Tucker. Traveling more than 500 miles to 10 different Gateway Cities to speak with residents and community leaders, Tolman received positive feedback across the Commonwealth for fingerprint trigger locks. He is the only attorney general candidate, Democrat or Republican, willing to use the office to implement the gun safety change.

The Salem leaders join a growing list of Tolman supporters. Tolman has the backing of the working families of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, the State Council of the SEIU, the New England Regional Council of Carpenters, and the brave first responders of the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Coalition of Police. He has the support of environmental groups Clean Water Action and the Environmental League of Massachusetts. He is supported by Congressmen Stephen Lynch and Bill Keating, former Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair John Walsh, campaign co-chairs State Senator Linda Dorcena Forry and Salem Mayor Driscoll, former treasurer Shannon O'Brien, and the four most recent former Massachusetts Attorneys General: Frank Bellotti, Scott Harshbarger, Tom Reilly and Jim Shannon.
