1. EXPLORE 5,000 YEARS OF HISTORY IN DANVERS

Where/When: Rebecca Nurse Homestead, Danvers; Saturday, 4 p.m.

Find out what's happening in Danverswith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Why Go: A team from the University of Southern Maine and Philips Andover Academy have been unearthing local artifacts on the grounds of the Rebecca Nurse Homestead over multiple summers as part of a summer archaeology program and the special exhibit is now ready for its grand unveiling. The team says thousands of artifacts were recovered, providing a glimpse into the lives of the people who have walked the grounds over the years and indicates a history that predates colonial settlement of the area. Professor Nate Hamilton and Heather Froshour from USM will present a formal lecture on the exhibit, which will be displayed in the "Green Room" at the Nurse home. The room is an 18th century parlor that hasn't been open to the public in decades. Seating is limited. For more information, visit www.rebeccanurse.org or call 978-774-8799.
