Habitat for Humanity Dedicates New Condos at 26 Mill St. Sunday

A dedication ceremony and open house for the public will be held Sept. 22 at 2 p.m.

The affordable housing project over at 26 Mill St. has wrapped up and the families are all moved in. Construction began back in November.

The project was the work of Habitat for Humanity-North Shore and built a new duplex home separated into two condo units.

Habitat purchased the land from the Danvers Housing Authority for a $1 and received approval from the Zoning Board of Appeals last summer to construct the two affordable housing units (40B) on a grassy lot at the former Danversport School.

The new homes go to two low-income families selected through an application process with Habitat. Part of the agreement is for those new homeowners to work side-by-side with volunteers throughout the construction process. It's called "sweat equity."

A dedication and open house will be held Sunday (2 p.m.) to give the public an opportunity to check out the new homes and celebrate with the new homeowners. There will be light food and refreshments. Call 978-578-3690 with any questions.
