Kennedy: Teaching Dogs New Tricks

Karen Kennedy trains and judges dogs in obedience training as well as living with five Labrador retrievers herself.

Occupation: Karen is an X-ray Technician and licensed CAT scan technician at Beverly Hospital, prior to that at Hunt Hospital.

Hobbies: Karen’s hobbies are her dogs.  She has five Labrador retrievers and trains them in competitive obedience. They go to AKC shows and she also judges at these events. Karen and Dick don’t breed their dogs, but have had three litters over the past twenty years. Matty and Cinder are from their own litters.

Karen also likes to watch the Patriots and Bruins and she tries to get to games, but with work and training the dogs four times a week, time is tough to find.  With this mild winter and the ability to train even more than usual, Karen trains the dogs twice a week in field and twice and week in obedience.

Favorite Book: The Bicentennial series, The Kent Chronicles, by John Jake.

Favorite Movie: Pretty Woman and Secretariat

Dream Vacation: "I would love to go on an Alaskan cruise with a week on the ship and a week on land."

Favorite Shop: “I don’t do a lot of shopping so I would have to say Wal-Mart”.

Favorite Eatery: Brothers and the Eighty-Eight

How long have you lived in Danvers: Karen has lived in Danvers all her life.

Why did you choose Danvers: "I grew up and here and didn’t want to leave."

Where will people see you around town: "Either at Choate Farm or behind the Danvers State Hospital grounds walking or training the dogs."

What would you like to see changed in town: "I think we need better lights near Town Hall."
