Santa to the Square to Light the Tree

The 15th Annual Danvers Holiday Festival wrapped up Saturday evening with the arrival of Santa Claus to light this year's town Christmas tree in the square.

As usual, Saint Nick caught a ride from the Fire Department down from Maple Street Congregational Church where he had been meeting with children that afternoon.

He joined John Ferguson and family, who donated this year's 30-foot blue spruce to the town, for the ceremonial flipping of the switch.

One special star you'll notice adorning the tree this year and in plain view of traffic is a bright pink ornament in memory of Danvers High teacher Colleen Ritzer.

The ornament bears the phrase, "Find good in every day," which is an abbreviated form of a quote from Ritzer, who was killed in October.
