Sylvan Street Slated for Repaving in Coming Weeks

That bumpy ride between the Liberty Tree Mall area and the Northshore Mall should be getting a lot smoother in the coming weeks.

The city of Peabody says public works crews will be milling its side of Sylvan Street from the intersection with Route 114 to the intersection with Endicott Street on Monday, Aug. 5 in preparation for paving.

Work is scheduled for 5 a.m. - 5 p.m. and no parking will be allowed on the street during that time, says a notice from the city. Vehicles may be towed at the owners' expense.

Peabody police say to expect traffic delays and they urge motorists to seek alternate routes. Weather permitting, work should continue for the rest of the week with sealcoating and raising structures, such as manhole covers, before paving can start.

The Salem News reports Danvers and Peabody are teaming up to repave their respective ends of Sylvan Street leading up to the highly trafficked intersection with Endicott Street in Danvers.

Danvers DPW Operations Director Bob Lee told the paper the paving was scheduled to begin within two to three weeks.
