What's the Proper Traffic and Safety Fix?

Everyone agrees there are a number of issues with the traffic configurations on Elliott Street and High Street at the new ramps to Route 128.

State and town officials are reviewing possible changes for two highway interchanges at Elliott Street and High Street to improve safety and traffic flow. In the meantime, there seems to be a wide range of ideas on what might be the best fix for either area.

So what do you think? What's the best way to make either intersection safer and eliminate any confusion for motorists?

coming off the highway towards beverly there is a lane on the left that you either can go left or stright that lane needs to be a left turn only ive seen so many people almost hit someone becasue they dont want to wait in the middle lane rush over to the left then cut in front of everone going stright. you have three lanes one going right to liberry st one going stright and left lane should be left turn only. when you do go str8 its also a weird aet up that needs to be fixed on the road lines.

Evelyn's observation is mine as well about the intersection of 62 and Liberty Street. The 62 eastbound left lane should become a left-turn-only lane, because too many drivers use it to get ahead of cars in the center lane. Someday one of them is going to injure seriously a center-lane driver or back-seat passenger by crashing into the side of the car as they both aim for the eastbound single lane on Elliott Street.

Bulldoze pretty much everything that was done and put it back the way it was.

Turning left onto the 128N ramp when coming from the Danvers end having to cross two lanes of oncoming traffic is the most dangerous part. Put the cloverleaf style northbound on ramp back on the eastbound side of 62.

I agree with Evelyn and Dan above. Eastbound Elliott at Liberty needs to have a left turn lane only to go onto 128. That lane currently allows drivers to turn left or to merge with the right lane to go straight on Elliott by the middle school. I love it when someone actually does want to turn left because it stops all of the people who are trying to cut into the right lane from moving!

I agree with Sean. We keep trying to take a town the size of Mayberry RFD and set up intersections in it like we were NYC ! It simply doesn't fit and wont ever work well.
