2 Danvers Moms Compete for a Chic Makeover

A Q&A with the two finalists from Danvers in the Lorraine Roy Chic Mom Makeover

has announced three finalists for their , two of whom live in town.

Gayla Bartlett and Karen Ranieri were selected from dozens of applicants who wrote in to convince Lorraine Roy owner Jeanne Hennessey that they were deserving of a wardrobe upgrade.

Before you cast your vote, check out our Q&A with the two Danvers finalists, then head over to the Lorraine Roy website to weigh in. The final day to vote is Friday October 14.

1. How long have you been living in Danvers?

Karen: 8 years

Gayla: I have only lived in Danvers for a short time, I have worked here for 3 years and after I became involved in the community knew THIS is where we wanted to raise our daughter. I fell in love with the town and the people.

2. Why did you want to be chosen as the Chic Mom Makeover?

Karen: Generally, I am walking around in a baseball cap with no make-up on. My nails aren't done. I decided to submit a nice photo, but I figured, let me get a whole new makeover, get in the groove, and keep the groove going. One of the last items I purchased for myself was my wedding dress from about 6 and a half years ago. I generally just don't go to shop.

Gayla: I am involved in so many organizations I am on the board of directors for Kiwanis, The Vice President of DEEP (Danvers Educational Enrichment Partnership), Vice President of NSWIB (North Shore Women In Business)where lots of the women are dressed to the nines.  I also help out on the Walk Committee for HAWC and Beverly Main Streets Promotions committee, Operation Troop.  I am also active in three different chambers of commerce and an ambassador for the North Shore Chamber.

I am always at marketing or networking event.  My favorite show is what not to wear I always say I should be on that show! Our clothing budget goes to our daughter first and I want to make sure she has what she needs before I worry about us.......so winning this makeover would be my Cinderella moment :)

3. How many kids do you have? What are their ages?

Karen: A 3 and 4 year old.

Gayla: I have one daughter Michaela who is 8 years old and attends , she wants me to tell you "I REALLY want Mommy to win" She has a gift of fashion she has her sketch pad and is always trying to give me fashion advice.

4. If you receive the Chic Mom Makeover, what's one of the things you'd bemost excited for?

Karen: I would say a new dress, probably.

Gayla: I would love to have a business suit, and need the guidance of the ladies at Lorraine Roy to help me go from frumpy to fabulous!

5.Why should people vote for you?

Karen: Moms work tremendously hard. It's nice to get an incentive once in a while to look your best, because it helps you to feel your best.

Gayla: Well every Mom is deserving, I hope you vote for me because I work hard and want to have a professional polished look and image that represents my sincere level of commitment that I have for the community of Danvers and the organizations of which I am affiliated and this would allow me the opportunity to.....Dare I say, Put myself first.

Also I am truly touched by the out pouring of well wishes and support from friends, Family and committee members from the groups I support.  This has definitely been a positive and wonderful experience and I am glad I was chosen to be a finalist this is a great thing that Jeanne Hennessey of Lorraine Roy is doing for Moms and women.

I know Karen as a neighbor and a friend. She is a truly dedicated Mom, day in and day out. Her vegetable garden not only provides food for the family (and lucky neighbors), but also serves as a teaching tool for the kids. She is always the first one to offer help no matter how busy her day is, including volunteering at the library, among other causes. Karen is a professional singer whose career has been on hold while she raises her kids and takes care of her home. She has recently joined a singing group "Classic Groove" and now fits that into an already busy schedule, practising when she can get the time. I can think of no better role model for her children, showing them that life is full of opportunities and fun! Karen always puts her family first-she deserves her "moment in the sun".

No one is more deserving than Gayla Bartlett. As a volunteer, Gayla is extraordinary in her giving to her employer and as a leader and volunteer of many nonprofit organizations. She is passionate and giving to everyone but herself. That means that she does not spend money on creating the professional image she needs to match the powerhouse networker that she is. As a mother she gives to her daughter before giving to herself. Please give Gayla the makeover of a life time to match the one of a kind woman that she is.
