Contracts Expire Saturday for Stop & Shop Unions

Labor contracts for tens of thousands of Stop & Shop workers expire this weekend and the company has been advertising for replacement workers in case of a strike.

Contracts for five unions representing 40,000 Stop & Shop workers across New England are set to expire on Saturday, reports Supermarket News.

Those contracts cover workers at the Stop & Shop supermarket in Danvers Plaza on Route 1 in Danvers.

The unions - United Food and Commercial Workers Locals 328, 371, 919, 1445 and 1459 - have a meeting set with company officials on Sunday, Supermarket news reports.

If the unions strike, Stop & Shop has hired temporary workers, reports the Boston Business Journal.

Supermarket News reports that negotiations have centered on healthcare coverage for part-time workers.
