Developer to Seek Slots License, Still No Location Chosen

The company looking at a Danvers mall for the possible location for a slots parlor confirmed with state regulators on Tuesday it is seeking a slots license.

The Cordish Company, the developer that wants a casino license in Massachusetts, said on Tuesday that it is seeking a slots license.

The company had been given a deadline of Monday to tell the state Gaming Commission whether it is seeking a slots license or resort casino license. Gaming Commission spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll said on Tuesday that Cordish will seek a slots license.

The company has not said where it hopes to build the slots parlor and it has not been required yet to tell state regulators where it wants it to be located.

It was widely reported last year that the company, and its Massachusetts subsidiary PPE Casinos Resort, at the Liberty Tree Mall.

WWLP in Springfield has reported that the company is also looking at a slots parlor on the Chicopee waterfront.

There were a total of 11 companies that met last month's deadline to submit an application and deposit to the Gaming Commission. Of those, 9 companies specifically said specifically which of the licenses they were seeking. Two of them at the time said they were seeking a slots license - both with locations publicly announced south of Boston.

But two remained. And on Tuesday, Cordish and Rush Street Gaming both said they will seek a slots license.

There is no deadline set yet for when the commission what to know the chosen location, but it has said it hopes to issue the state's only slots license in September.

Doesn't tthe approval of slots in Danvers depend on a citizen vote? If so, time to enlighten people about the consequences for the community before it is too late. The proponents are already doing their work.
