Gas Prices Surge More Than 30 Cents in a Month; Are you Driving Less?

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline has gone from $3.43 to $3.74 in Danvers over the past month.

Gas prices in Danvers continue their upward march, with prices reaching the highest point ever in February and up more than a quarter in the past month.

AAA Southern New England said its survey of prices in Massachusetts on Monday found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $3.72 per gallon, four cents higher than a week ago and up 31 cents over the past month.

On Monday, the average price of a gallon of regular gas in Danvers was $3.74, also up 31 cents from a month ago, according to AAA.

The national average for self serve unleaded of $3.73 and a year ago at this time the Massachusetts average price was $3.60.

The least expensive gallon of gas on Monday was being sold at Costco on Route 1 for $3.61, but that is only for members. Stop and Shop was selling it for $3.65, AL Prime had a gallon of regular for $3.67 and it was below the average at $3.69 at Gulf Express on Route 114 and the High Street Service Station.

AAA offers a new gas saving tip each week with its gas price updates. This week, the AAA suggests drivers accelerate smoothly and brake gradually - it’s safer, uses less gas and reduces brake wear.

Actually I am curtailing my driving quite a bit, and I often take the old Mtn. Bike on short hops around town, errands etc. (weather permitting) I suspect more folks might take up cycling or walking to run quick errands. I used to commute to Salem daily on a bike, it was a bit dicey but I was in far better shape then...

High gas prices increase tax revenue and help the government push their environmental policies. You can't elect people like Obama and Deval Patrick and also complain about gas prices. We voted for higher gas and heating oil prices.

I would walk/bike more but its just not a bike friendly area. Driving cars is just too easy compared to walking and biking in Danvers.

The most annoying thing about walking around Danvers for me is the way the sidewalks always come to an end on one side of the road and begin again on the other side, so you're always crossing the street unneccessarily.

So true

Oh yeah I noticed that Jennifer I hate that. Especially on Centre St, and some parts have no sidewalks. And I live off route 114 more near Middleton, there are no sidewalks at all! It would be nice to have sidewalks on 114 but that will probably never happen. People drive too fast its crazy. My friend use to bike on 114, he got hit by cars a couple times. Most people just don't care if your walking or biking.
