Sports Authority Nearing Mall Move; What Should Fill the Empty Space?

The Sports Authority has plans to move to the other side of the Liberty Tree Mall next month.

What store should replace the soon-to-be vacant space at the that has been home to The Sports Authority?

The store and will reopen there on Saturday, Oct. 20, according to Sports Authority spokesman Kelly Baldyga.

The store is now located at the back of the mall, near the police station and mall entrance from Ash Street. The new store will face the front of the mall where Bed, Bath and Beyond was located between and .

The new Sports Authority store will have 10-20 additional employees be 35,000 square feet. It will also have a new layout with brighter lighting and bold colors, Baldyga said. Plus, it will include a new fitness equipment area, expanded footwear department and a new checkout area.

A mall spokesman, who did not want to be identified by name, said the mall owners Simon do not have any information to announce right now about what store or stores will fill the space at The Sports Authority’s move.

It would be nice if the movie theater could be moved to the old sports authority location. Then they could put stores back in the wing of the mall that connects to kolhs and the new sports authority location. I'm sure that won't happen due to the ammount of time and money it would take to remodel both locations to make it possible. Plus the fact that then they would need to fill the new stores created in the mall but it would be a good first step to fixing the problems at Liberty Tree.

There is a Whole Foods planned as part of the Market Street development in Lynnfield, which will be just off Rt. 128 at exit 43. http://patch.com/A-tclg

Wegman's! Great grocery store and it would be nice to give some competition to Shaws's (depressing store to visit) and Stop & Shop on the other side of town.
