NH Girl Scout Cookies Cheaper than ones in MA?

You asked and we answered...Why are Girl Scout cookies cheaper in NH?

Wondering why your Thin Mints cost more in Massachusetts than in New Hampshire?

A reader wrote in this question yesterday: "Why are Girl Scout cookies $3.50 in New Hampshire but $4 in Massachusetts?"

Patch went straight to the source - the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts headquarters in North Andover and found out.

According to Cindy Campbell of GSEM, it all has to do with who bakes them.

"The reason for the price difference is because N.H. uses a different bakery than GSEM," Campbell wrote in an e-mail. "They use Little Brownie Baker and GSEM uses ABC Baker. Pricing is based on how much the baker is charging the council.  From that, the council sets the price."

With those cookies hitting the market soon,

Tracey - Very cool! Maybe you would consider doing a blog post about what you learned?!

The real answer is hidden in paragraph five - "the council sets the price". Are Oreo's fifty cents cheaper in NH too? I find it very hard to believe that there is a huge cost difference in producing cookies between these bakers. And if there is such a difference, the "Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts" are being ripped off or something fishy is going on. Why not get a quote from both bakers, get the cookies from the cheaper baker, and still charge the higher price?

I think there is some incorrect information provided, please let me clarify. The council sets the price of the box of cookies to help provide programs and summer camp at a discounted price. Girl Scouts of New Hampshire can afford to sell the boxes of cookies for a lower price since they have fewer camps and properties then Girl Scouts of Eastern Mass. We set the price so that all girls can afford summer camp and so we can provide quality programs all year at a reasonable price. We really appreciate everyone's support of our girls.
