A great way to start the day with a quick look at the events and happenings in town.

Welcome to “5 Things,” your daily resource for community events, happenings in town and other little tidbits of information. Here are five things you need to know on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

1. Great: Wednesday is looking like it will be a great day weatherwise, with temperatures in the mid-40s and sunny skies.

2. Ash Wednesday: Lent starts on Wednesday for Catholics and other Christians today on Ash Wednesday. It is the first day of the Lenten fast and at services on Wednesday ashes are typically put on the forehead as a reminder of mortality.
