5 Things To Know on Jan. 10: Girls Scout Cookies for Sale

A great way to start the day with a quick look at the events and happenings in town.

Welcome to “5 Things,” your daily resource for community events, happenings in town and other little tidbits of information. Here are five things you need to know on Thursday, Jan. 10.

1. Sun: Thursday is forecasted to be a sunny day, with temperatures getting up into the 40s again with wind blowing between 11 and 15 miles per hour.

2. Cookies: It’s Girl Scout cookie season, and there’s another opportunity on Thursday to buy them. The Girl Scouts will be set up outside the Stop and Shop at Danvers Plaza on Route 1 from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday evening.

3. Snow Costs: The one and only snowstorm of the winter, so far, is almost a distant thought. A few inches fell on the final Saturday night of 2012, but we are down to just scattered snowcover and many dirty snowbanks. But how much did it cost to plow? So far the total bill has been $82,000, according to Town Manager Wayne Marquis. That includes some smaller events earlier in the winter. He told the Board of Selectmen that 88 percent of the town’s $695,000 snow and ice removal budget remains.

4. Loss of a Sibling: The Hospice of the North Shore’s Bertolon Center for Grief and Healing is hosting a session on Thursday for adults who are coping with the loss of an adult sibling. The group meets on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. and is free, but advance registration is required. Contact them at 978-774-7566.

5. Open Space: The Open Space and Recreation Committee meets on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Town Manager’s conference room at Town Hall. The board will get an update on the Rail Trail and get info about a study of Lebel’s Grove, among other items on the board’s agenda.
