5 Things To Know on Jan. 28: Kindergarten Registration Begins

Welcome to “5 Things,” your daily resource for community events, happenings in town and other little tidbits of information. Here are five things you need to know on Monday, Jan. 28.

1. Icy: Clouds will move in on Monday and will eventually give way to snow around dinnertime before changing over to a mix of sleet and freezing rain. A total accumulation of 1-2 inches of precipitation in expected.

2. Kindergarten: Registration for Danvers Public School kindergarten begins on Monday and runs all week. Registration on Monday runs 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Peabody Institute Library.

3. Stamps: The price of mailing a letter went up by a cent on Sunday. It now costs 46 cents to mail a letter and 33 cents for a postcard.

4. Danvers Idol: Derek John Bergman, Danvers Idol in 2009, is scheduled to start competing in the 29th Annual International Blues Challenge, which starts on Monday in Memphis, Tenn. Bergman is the drummer and back-up vocalist for "Gracie Curran and the High Falutin Band.”

5. Zoning Board: The Danvers Zoning Board of Appeals meets at 7 p.m. on Monday at Danvers Town Hall. The board will hear several plans, including a application for a special permit to allow sidewalk sales at Harbor Freight Tools on Route 1 South.
