5 Things To Know on Oct. 3: Low-Flying Helicopters

Welcome to “5 Things,” your daily resource for community events, happenings in town and other little tidbits of information. Here are five things you need to know on Wednesday, Oct. 3.

1. Paving: A paving project was originally planned for Ferncroft Road on Wednesday, but that has been bumped back to Saturday. The change was made in coordination with both the paving contractor and North Shore Community College, which generates a lot of traffic of the road – just off Route 1 – on weekdays.

2. Helicopters: If you see some low-flying helicopters in the area on Wednesday, there is probably no reason for concern. National Grid said that it will have low-flying helicopters over its power lines all across the North Shore on Wednesday,. The flyovers are designed to inspect National Grid lines and Danvers, of course, has its own municipal electric utility. But some nearby towns, including Beverly, Topsfield and Salem, are all mentioned as towns where the low-flying helicopters could be spotted.

3. Tisei: Congressional candidate Richard Tisei will address more than 200 people on Wednesday morning at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Boston North Shore (formerly CoCo Key Hotel) as part of the North Shore Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Breakfast Forum starting at 7:15 a.m. Tisei, a Republican from Wakefield, is seeking the Sixth Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Incumbent John Tierney, D-Salem, spoke to the group last month.

4. Jobs Commission: The results of the state’s Jobs Creation Commission will release its final report on Wednesday, with ideas about how to “propel economic growth” and create jobs in Massachusetts. As of June, there were 438,000 residents in the state that were either unemployed or underemployed. The report, which was compiled by the Commission under orders of the Legislature, will be unveiled in a morning event at the State House.

5. Job Fair: There will be all sorts of job offerings on display Wednesday at the Peabody Institute Library of Danvers as part of the North Shore Career Center’s fall job fair. It runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will include jobs ranging from bank teller to nurse. Dress in professional attire and bring a resume.
